Learning Goal: How to measure and describe motion using graphs.
Today: Position-Time Graphs
Given: TI-84 calculator, Motion detector, Aux cord, cars (optional), boards for ramps (optional)
Find: How different types of motion are shown are on a position-time graph by walking in front of a motion detector. Work to contrast the shape and slope of the position‐time graphs for the following types of motion:
- moving in the + direction versus moving in the ‐ direction
- moving fast versus moving slow
- a constant speed motion versus a gradually changing speed
- a speeding up motion versus a slowing down motion
- combinations of the above
Some tips about the detectors:
- For "slow", walk really slow. Then faster would be anything faster than that.
- Use the Easydata app on the calculator.
- They work past a minimum distance of about .5 m.
Assignment:
- Finish any incomplete work from the packet!
