Make note of the assignment that is due Tuesday!
Learning Goal: I can
- ...compare and contrast the characteristics of both a vibration and a wave.
- ...distinguish between a transverse wave and a longitudinal wave, and identify the identifying characteristics of each.
- ...distinguish between constructive and destructive interference.
- ...describe what factors may affect the speed of a wave.
- ...describe a standing wave and how it occurs.
- ...describe the Doppler Effect.
Today: Pendulum Lab
- Given: Pendulum clamps, lab stands, string, masses or other possible objects for pendulum bobs, Hudl Technique for video capture (or other timing methods)
- Find: What factors of a pendulum, if any, affect it's period.
As we watch the video at this link, make notes in your notebook about the following:
- What observations can you make about the motion of these three objects? In what ways are they similar and in what ways are they different?
- Next, observe only the side-to-side motion. That is, ignore the vertical motion of the pendulum and the front-to-back motion of the circular motion. Describe the similarities of this side-to-side motion.
Assignment:
- Were you gone for the Circular/Gravitational Test? When will you take it?
- Due Tues, 5/1: Read/watch the following resources FOR UNDERSTANDING. Take Cornell or other organized format notes. Among other things, your goal is to be able to do at least the following:
- Compare and contrast the characteristics of both a vibration and a wave.
- Distinguish between a transverse wave and a longitudinal wave, and identify the identifying characteristics of each.
