LearnAP Problem
Learning Goal(s): Dynamics: Newton's Laws of Motion
Today:
- Given: A string passed through a tube held vertically, with a known weight hanging at the bottom of the string and a rubber stopper tied at the top of the string. As the string and stopper are swung with a constant speed in a horizontal circle.
- Find: The tangential speed of the stopper, and the centripetal force acting on the stopper. Demonstrate the relationship between the centripetal force, tangential speed and radius. (Hint: this may involve graphs.)
- Use your Experimental Design Template to complete the lab, including all elements.
Assignment:
- Practice 5.1- due 1/7: Read 5.1, 5.2, 5.3; Take Cornell or other format notes; Answer Reading Questions on Mastering Physics
