What is one specific thing that you will do in this class this week that your Phuture Physics Self will thank you for? Record it in your physics notebook.
While that is happening, I will come around to check off the notes that are due.
Learning Goal: How to measure and describe motion.
Today:
- Working with the partners in you small groups to figure out how you will determine the speed of a constant motion car using the given materials. Record your group's method and results in your own notebook, they will be reported on a whiteboard later.
- Materials: Constant velocity car, meter sticks, timers (phone or stopwatch).
- Use good scientific technique: Accuracy, Precision, Consistency/Repeatability.
Assignment:
Due Tues 8/29: Using any or all of the following resources, take Cornell or other organized format notes to learn about the terms distance, displacement, speed, velocity and acceleration. Good physics notes should include definitions, examples, equations and sample calculations. They can include drawings, diagrams, text language...anything that helps you understand the information!
- APlus Physics: Defining Motion
- Hewitt DrewIt: Linear Motion Definitions
- PBS CrashCourse: Motion in a Straight Line
- Syllabus and Safety Contract. Submit Google Form - students, parents.
- Complete this online activity (approx 15 min)
