- In your own words, in your physics notebook: What is meant by the term net force? What is a free body diagram?
Assignments:
- Make sure you are checking the "Upcoming" section of Schoology for assignments, due dates, quiz and test dates.
- If you are planning on scheduling a retake of the test, make plans to see me in GPS, lunch or after school ASAP.
Learning Goals: To be successful in this unit, you should be able to...
- ...understand, describe, and apply the concept of inertia.
- ...understand, describe, and apply Newton’s First Law of Motion (N1L)
- ....understand and describe the difference between mass, weight and inertia.
- ...understand, describe and apply the concept of net force.
- Supplies: Assorted materials (balls, books, wood blocks, carts, string, boards for ramps), whiteboard, markers
- You will work in pairs to create situations using a variety of materials (balls, books, carts, string) and learn to construct free-body diagrams for those situations. Use whiteboards to draw free-body diagrams of the situation. Each group should try to create a different situation, with 1, 2, 3 or 4 forces.
- You will take turns presenting your board to the rest of the class. Each pair displays their diagrams and briefly explains their thinking. As groups present, challenge each other’s claims and support their answers with evidence (scientific argumentation).
