- Lab time!
Learning Goal: To use Newton's Laws of motion to predict the behavior of objects' motion.
Today:Coffee Filter Skydiver Lab
How does the velocity and acceleration of a falling object change over time when under the dual influence of gravity and air resistance?
Materials Required: Coffee filter; computer‐interfaced motion detector.
Description of Procedure: Students drop a coffee filter and use a motion detector to capture the velocity of the filter as a function of time. The velocity‐time graph is used to accomplish th e purpose of the lab.
Once this has been done several times for a single filter, add filters one at a time and repeat. Make sure that the filters are securely fit into each other.
Your conclusion should include FBDs of the forces acting on the filter.
