This week it's easy for students to look ahead to an eagerly-anticipated break. They may be daydreaming of family travels, time with friends, giving (or more likey getting) gifts, staying up late, sleeping in, and hours on the couch binge-watching the latest Zombie Apocalypse show. Before you get too far ahead of yourself, a couple of thoughts:
To my students: I'll see you in class. Finish strong!
To my parents: Hold them accountable - cheer-lead when you can, push when you must!
To all: Please have a safe and enjoyable holiday season!

- Don't get so caught up dreaming and planning for almost two weeks off that you forget the here and now. We still have a very important week-plus of school left. Many, if not all, of your classes have a final test (yes, that means YOU, BEast Physicists) or project. Make sure you finish strong! It may be hard for some of you to think this far ahead, but your grades NOW can go a long way to determine your future. How? Grades are of course a part of the college admissions and scholarship process. Additionally, the things you are doing in your classes now are giving you practice on skills tested in extrance exams like the ACT. Extra points on your GPA, SAT and/or ACT can get you into college AND lower your cost! I am not telling you this to put pressure on you, but to motivate you to finish strong and attack your finals! For extra measure, here are some scientifically proven ideas to help you prepare.
- Once break IS here, how do so many students use the time? Couch-surfing? Video games? Endless hours scrolling through their Twitter Feed? Think about using SOME of that time preparing for your future. Not all of it, just some of it. You should enjoy your break too! As many of you know, I am stubbornly passionate about getting our students to college - 2-year or 4-year - with as little debt as possible. So I would like you to think about using a little of that extra time each day to prepare for your future. That's where the video below comes in. Check out these tips for ways to spend some of your extra time getting the college picture in focus.
