Warm Up: Consider the following as you prepare for Coulomb's balloon:
Learning Goal: Understand what happens at the atomic level when an object is charged or polarized; what is an electric field, and how can it be used to calculate force.
Today:
Assignment:
- How will you design for consistency across multiple trials?
- How will you measure % error (difference)?
Learning Goal: Understand what happens at the atomic level when an object is charged or polarized; what is an electric field, and how can it be used to calculate force.
Today:
- Review 16.6
- Discuss Coulomb's Balloon lab for Monday.
Assignment:
- Read this discussion about visualizing electric fields. Then go to this simulation of electric fields. Using the techniques described in the article and the simulation, sketch at least six charge arrangements and their associated fields. Include at least two examples each involving combinations of 2, 3 and 4 charges. Be prepared to share them on Monday.
